Double Shutter is a modern taken on the much enjoyed traditional dice game Shut The Box. Like its predecessor, it is a winning combination of luck, probability and strategy.
Instead of just one row of tiles, Double Shutter has two. However, just like the classic, Double Shutter is straight up, addictive fun.
The double row of tiles are labelled 1 - 9. Players take turns to throw the two dice and then flip down the corresponding tiles that they feel offer the best combination (e.g. if you roll a total of 5, you can either flip down 1 and 4, 3 and 2 or 5). Second row tiles can only be accessed when the tile in front has been knocked down.
The aim is to get as many tiles flipped down before you roll a number you cannot fulfil. As a strategy it is wise to shut down as many tiles in the front row, as these count as double the face value when adding up at the end. The ultimate goal is to shut the super box and have no tiles left. Otherwise the winner is whoever has the lowest score.
Double Shutter is a fun way to teach / reinforce simple arithmetic and number bonds. Engaging to play for family members young and old.
Playing time approx 10 - 20 minutes. Recommended for children aged 8 years + (but younger number savvy children may also enjoy with adult support).
This game can be played as a solitary entertainment (where the solo player tries to best their best score) or with up to 4 players.
The game is in a well constructed, self contained tin box which makes it easy to store and a travel friendly game.
Not suitable for children younger than 3 years of age.
